Learn more about Quick Draw and our history.

How it All Began

Founded by Walt DeMonte in 1978, DeMonte Fabricating Ltd. began as a Canadian custom metal fabrication company built on craftsmanship, precision, and problem-solving. A decade later, that hands-on expertise led to an innovation that would contribute to transforming the flatbed trucking industry.

Around 1988, the company developed one of its first rolling tarp system prototypes and shortly after, was branded as Quick Draw Tarpaulin Systems. The idea was simple but powerful: conventional tarping methods were no longer meeting the demands of a fast-moving, competitive market. Truck operators needed a safer, faster, and more reliable way to protect their loads.

From the Start, the Goal Was Clear

  • Reduce driver injury
  • Protect loads from weather
  • Save valuable time on every haul

As experienced metal fabricators, designing an efficient retractable tarp system was a goal being achieved, but bringing it to market required patience as flatbed operators considered this new approach. Conversations with trucking companies generated plenty of interest and enthusiasm leading to the first sales of Quick Draw tarp systems starting in 1992.

The Path Forward

From 1992 to 1996, an early version of the Quick Draw tarp system, referred to as the “round top” system was being sold mainly in Ontario and Michigan as the design was evolving. In 1997, Quick Draw introduced its heavy duty flat-top tarp system that closely resembles the Quick Draw systems being sold to this day. Quick Draw had found its footing and sales began to expand rapidly across Canada and USA.

Strategic Growth Across North America

As demand increased — particularly in the United States — the company expanded its footprint:

  • In 1999, Quick Draw Tarpaulin Systems, Inc. was established to serve the growing U.S. market.
  • In 2006, Quick Draw Tarpaulin Systems, Ltd. opened a facility in Lancaster, Ontario to better serve Eastern Canada and the Eastern United States.
  • Over the years, additional U.S. and Canadian locations were opened, along with a growing dealer and service network throughout North America.

Today, Quick Draw systems are widely recognized for their superior design, durability, and performance in demanding environments.
